Groin pain – the hip joint is the largest joint in the body. It is formed by the spherical head of the femur (upper part of the long bone of the thigh), which articulates with a baseball glove-shaped cup with a concave surface, called the acetabulum or cotyloid cavity (lower and lateral part of the pelvis). Both the head of the femur and the acetabulum are lined by cartilage. Between these two coated bony structures there is the acetabular labrum which is a fibrocartilage inserted in the margin of the acetabulum.
