At the age of 40, I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the bilateral femoral head.
An engineer by training and a manager by profession, it was as if the world had collapsed on me. Married and the father of two, it felt like the world was going to end.

I was treated by Dr. João Sarmento Esteves and Dr. Pedro Simas a month after my diagnosis with a conservative joint preservation technique. This technique managed to postpone the placement of the prosthesis in my right hip for 4 years.
Today, my quality of life with the prosthesis on my right hip has improved dramatically and my left hip is reacting very well to the joint preservation technique, managing to survive without the need for a prosthesis.
The team formed by these two orthopedic surgeons was extremely important to me, as they convey confidence, have complete mastery of their field and choose the best team of anesthesiologists and instrumentalists to work with them. There’s nothing more comforting when you’re entering an operating room, hearing loving, cheerful voices that distract you until you fall asleep without realizing it. When you wake up and don’t realize how much time has passed, there’s the same team in a good mood with their work done.
That same day I put my foot down and the intensive physiotherapy carried out at the Lambert Clinic meant that in two weeks I no longer needed crutches.
